MSQ2I Resource / Website Cost

How much does a managed small-business website cost?

The useful answer is not a single number. Cost depends on who builds the site, what is included after launch, how often the business needs changes, and whether the website is treated as a one-time project or an ongoing business system.

Short answer

A small-business website can cost anywhere from a low-cost DIY subscription to a custom project with significant upfront cost. A managed website model spreads the work across an ongoing monthly service that can include hosting, maintenance, updates, visibility work, and support. At MSQ2I, current managed website plans are $199, $399, and $599 per month, with a setup fee matching the selected plan.

What are you actually paying for?

The website itself is only one part of the cost. A business also has to account for hosting, security, updates, mobile testing, content changes, technical maintenance, analytics, search visibility, and the time required to keep everything current.

Two website offers that look similar on price can be completely different once you compare what happens after launch. One may hand over a finished site and leave the owner responsible for everything else. Another may include ongoing management and a defined person responsible for keeping the site working.

The four common website cost models

DIY website builder

Usually the lowest direct cash cost. The tradeoff is that the owner becomes responsible for design choices, content, setup, updates, integrations, and troubleshooting.

One-time custom build

The business pays for the project up front. Ongoing maintenance, hosting, content changes, SEO work, and future redesigns may be separate.

Freelancer or agency retainer

A recurring fee may cover maintenance, marketing, development, or strategy. Scope varies widely, so businesses need to understand exactly what is included.

Managed website service

The website is treated as an ongoing operating asset. Hosting, maintenance, routine changes, support, and continued improvement can be packaged together.

What makes a website more expensive?

  • More complex page structures or custom design requirements.
  • E-commerce, memberships, portals, custom booking, or CRM integrations.
  • Large amounts of content that must be written, migrated, or reorganized.
  • Custom functionality that goes beyond normal small-business website needs.
  • Heavy ongoing update requirements.
  • Specialized integrations with third-party systems.

What should a small business compare before choosing?

Do not compare only the build price. Compare the total operating responsibility. Ask who handles hosting, SSL, security, updates, backups, routine content changes, mobile issues, broken forms, tracking, search visibility, and future improvements.

A cheap website becomes expensive if it creates another job for the owner or has to be rebuilt because nobody maintained it.

What do the current managed plans cost over 12 months?

Each plan has a one-time setup fee matching its monthly price. These totals add setup plus 12 monthly payments and exclude taxes or separately quoted work.

Essential

$199 setup + 12 × $199 = $2,587 for the first 12 months.

Growth

$399 setup + 12 × $399 = $5,187 for the first 12 months.

Advantage

$599 setup + 12 × $599 = $7,787 for the first 12 months.

Monthly payment covers the ongoing managed service; it does not automatically buy out or transfer the completed site. Review the written agreement for cancellation and transfer terms. For DIY and one-time build comparisons, see the broad small-business website cost guide.

How MSQ2I prices managed websites

MSQ2I currently offers three managed website levels: Essential at $199 per month, Growth at $399 per month, and Advantage at $599 per month. Setup matches the monthly plan. Each level includes a professional website, hosting, security, and ongoing responsibility for the site; higher levels add more updates, visibility work, and AI Website Assistant capability.

You can see the current plan details on the MSQ2I Managed Websites page.

Is a managed website worth it?

It can be when the website matters to the business and the owner does not want to become the person responsible for maintaining it. The question is less “Can I build a website cheaper?” and more “What is it worth to have the website stay current, useful, secure, and supported without becoming another task on my list?”
